I'm confused what are they looking for that this doesn't have? A different color scheme? More muscles? Exaggerated foreshortening that makes no sense? I think this looks even better colored... perhaps they made a mistake.
How come they didn't like?!?! Are they F*CKING crazy?!?!? I, personally, L-O-V-E-D this one! Each detail of the blades and gloves is simply stunning! And his pose!...my gosh! Not to mention on how well done the coloring of the skin is made.

Heaven forbid a MAN look good enough to eat... Women can be drawn as sexual objects for guys to stare at, but never can a man be done for the women! Jerks. *starts laughing at own faux feminazi ranting* Really, it's too bad they didn't like your picture. Poor Vega... he's such an obscure character, nowadays... Nobody loves him.
I happen to like how you made him look intimidating here rather than like a pretty boy as he would have preferred. And with all the detail and work you've put into this, it makes me truly wonder just what they want out of their artwork. I don't seem to know why they would reject this at all.

We just wanted to let you know that you were quite close to getting in to the Tribute book. It was a very tough competition with a lot of entries and it was hard to make the final cuts.
Even with the expanded page count we weren't able to include all the pics we would have liked to.
Keep practicing your artwork and pushing your skills as you go. All creative pursuits have their ups and downs.
To be perfectly honest, I think this is some of your best work, so far.
I've liked your stuff in the past, but their was always something a little bit off about it. It might be the physical proportions of the characters, or maybe it's something wrong with how you're texturing them. Either way, I always felt that your work was falling just short of being really special.
However, with this work, it seems that you've really elevated beyond those problems. Definitely the best character portrait you've done. Excellent job.
